Product description

Igor Barkowski’s publication introduces into contemporary circulation the speech delivered by Jacek Idzi Przybylski on the hundredth anniversary of the victory of John III Sobieski over the Turks near Vienna. This didactic speech in Warsaw was listened to not only by young people, but also by its inspirer – King Stanisław August. It was he who included the commemoration of this famous event in his sophisticated, multi-threaded historical policy. Igor Barkowski, in a commentary on the critical edition of Przybylski’s speech, presented complex, even equilibristic, royal propaganda efforts aimed at transforming the image of the Lion of Lechistan into a model of a monarch brave in implementing his vision of modernising the state – a philosopher on the throne, easily associated with the currently reigning Stanisław August.
