Product description

The Romabarocca Ensemble, an early music ensemble led by maestro Lorenzo Tozzi, presents a concert version of the last opera commissioned by Queen Maria Kazimiera Sobieska during her stay in Rome, where she stayed since 1699 – ‘Amor d'un'ombra e gelosia d'una'aura’, better known under the shortened title ‘Il Narciso’. The opera's libretto was written by Carlo Sigismondo Capece, poet and court secretary of the Queen, and the music was written by one of the most famous composers of the Baroque era – Domenico Scarlatti. The work was performed for the first time during the carnival of 1714 and gained great recognition among the audience. In 2016, Italian musicians undertook to restore the repertoire related to the patronage of the Sobieski family in Rome. The recording was recorded in the interiors of the 17th century Biblioteca Angelica in Rome, which houses the book collection of the Arcadian Academy, an influential and culture-forming institution operating in Rome since 1699, which – as an honorary member – included Queen Maria Kazimiera Sobieska and Prince Aleksander Sobieski.
